World Book Week at Hockerill

World Book Week at Hockerill

What a busy time it was for the library last week, promoting Reading for Enjoyment in the college. From assemblies to all year groups, to members of staff reading to students in the Menet Room Reading Nook at lunchtimes, the students have had so many opportunities to celebrate reading in all its forms. Many students enjoyed completing the Masked Reader Quiz – thanks to teachers from a range of faculties, who took the time to pose with a favourite book and record a short extract - shared digitally – which had to be matched up with the ‘masked’ photos. Thanks also to the Year 12 Reading Mentors who recorded a serialized short story, played to KS3 and KS4 students during their form times. The Sixth Form students were given the opportunity to listen to a recording of a true story, ‘Sing Sing Tattoo’, taken from the book ‘The Moth’. Year 12 students from Interact Club worked in the wings, producing promotional posters for the special events, whilst others oversaw the Book Swap in the Library on World Book Day. The final ten minutes of Thursday were given over to a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ session, when staff and students took time out of their lessons to conclude our celebrations with a period of private or shared reading. Finally, thanks go to all the staff who celebrated this special day by coming dressed as book characters. What an impressive effort they had made!
